Sandy & the Public Library (webinar)
Thurs., Jan. 24: 10 am | Webinar recording

Presented by:
Jeanette M. Moy, Vice President of Strategic Planning, Brooklyn Pub. Lib.

Lay Cheng Lee, Head of Facilities, Brooklyn Pub. Lib.

On October 29, Superstorm Sandy hit New York City and other Northeastern states,
causing more than $50 billion in damage. Throughout the devastation, public libraries
remained open and served as centers and safe havens in their communities. Hear
members of the Brooklyn Public Library talk about their experience and the aftermath
of this devastating storm. How did they prepare? What impact did the storm have on
communication with the library branches? What would they have done differently? And
more importantly, how do they feel their roles have changed after this experience?
Q & A time will be available, and this webinar will be recorded.

Get off the Bandwagon! New Approaches
in SRP Programs and Services for Young Adults
(webinar)
Thurs. Feb. 7: 1 pm @ NeighborWorks, 437 S Jackson St. Green Bay
Webinar recording | CE form

Presented by: Emily Scherrer, Youth Services Manager,
Yuma County Library District (AZ)

Looking to enhance your tween/teen Summer Reading Program? We will look at
various SRP models from around the country and discuss which models we can
incorporate into our own libraries. By increasing the number of programs that
encourage literacy, changing our "old school" mindset, and working with outside
agencies, we can truly transform our Summer Reading Programs into local, national,
and even global inspirations.

Emily Scherrer is the Youth Services Manager in Yuma County, Arizona. She
coordinates the Summer Reading Program for Yuma County's eight library branches,
including two branches located within schools. Previously, Emily was the teen librarian
in Waterford, Wisconsin. Emily is a committee member of ALSC's "Early Childhood Programs
and Services" and has served on various state committees and boards. She received her
Bachelor's degree in History from Michigan State and her MLIS from UW Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Scouting Out New Books (webinar)
Thurs. Apr. 25: 1 pm | Webinar recording | CE form

Presented by: Jean Anderson, South Central Library System

In 2011, there were almost 350,000 books published (according to Bowker) and that
number doesn’t include the over 211,000 titles that were self-published! How do we
figure out which books are going to be the ones that our patrons will ask for without
reading 24/7?

There are a couple new and some not-so-new tools out there that can help.
LibraryThing, Goodreads, and Edelweiss are just a few of the sites that Jean will
cover in this fast-paced, interactive webinar. Come prepared to share your favorite
book blog or website with the group. We’ll post all the sites after the webinar.
