Dear Friends of the Library,

Once again we are preparing for the Friends annual meeting and book sale. As part of the Lioness Memorial Day celebration we will have a tent at the Lakewood Town Hall grounds on Sunday, May 30.

We will have a great selection of books this year, including many children's books and newer hardcovers. As an exciting new feature, we will be drawing names for free books (for adults and children) throughout the book sale.

We still need book donations - this is a great time to clean your bookshelves! Bring book donations to the library in Lakewood. We also need workers to help set up and take down after the show - just leave your name at the library.

Spring is here and the first bulbs are poking through the ground in front of the library. We have ordered more bulbs to bloom after the tulips and crocus. Jane and Stan Lapacz care for the flower beds and they would love help planting the bulbs and annuals generously donated by Marilyn's Greenhouse -- just leave your name at the library.

The library board has set up an endowment fund for supplementing future expenditures and has asked the Friends for seed money. The Friends' board decided to give a thousand dollars to the
fund, and will contribute to the construction of a new parking lot, which is badly needed. If you have any other suggestions as to how best use funds raised by the Friends of the Library please contact one of the officers. We are always appreciative of suggestions.

This year, our annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the book sale. Both president and secretary are up for reelection. These are two-year terms. Nominations will be taken from the floor but we would like to go into the meeting with a ballot of candidates. If you are interested, call at 715-276-6712.

I have held this position much longer than our constitution allows and am getting a little burned out. There are only two events that take time and effort, both money-raisers, and three meetings per year that are involved in these jobs. PLEASE think seriously about getting involved - it's your library, too!

-- Barb Konopacky, President

We Need Volunteers!

The Friends of the Library needs some volunteers to:

~ Help plant and maintain the library's beautiful flowerbeds and grounds.

~ Help set up and/or take down at the Book Sale on Sunday, May 30

~ Get your name on the ballot for President or Secretary of the Friends of the Library

If you would like to volunteer for one of these jobs or have any other time or talent you'd like to give, leave your name at the library. Together, we make our community library even better!

Have you checked out the library's web page?!! If not, you could be missing out on a great source for finding quality information on the Internet and for ordering library materials. If you need computer/Internet access, use one of the 5 free stations at the library. If you need some assistance in learning how to use the web site, ask library staff.

Message from the President of the Library Board of Trustees:

The Board of Trustees for the Lakes Country Public Library has established an Endowment Fund.

Form time to time, moneys donated to the Lakes Country Public Library, either as gifts or bequests, by friends, citizens, and/or organizations of the community at the stipulation of the donor will become part of the Endowment Fund.

It is the obligation of the Board of Trustees to insure that stipulations provided by the donor regarding the use and acknowledgement of the donation be honored.

The Board of Trustees reserves the right to refuse any donation that is not consistent with the library's mission or laws of the State of Wisconsin.

The Endowment Fund shall be sustaining with the Board of Trustees spending only the interest generated in the previous calendar year. The long range goal for the use of endowment moneys is to fund a variety of innovative projects that benefit and are accessible to the library's entire constituency.

We invite you to consider the Endowment Fund as a means of assisting the Lakes Country Public Library to be the very best in can be.
