Take a look at BookLetters

The Lakes Country Public Library catalog, InfoSoup, is now offering "BookLetters" for your reading pleasure. BookLetters is a group of monthly lists of new books. Lists include children's books, mysteries, book club picks, general fiction and many categories of nonfiction. Right now there are twenty-five lists to choose from, with more to come.

You can view Bookletters online or have them delivered to you by email -- subscribing is easy! Take a look at BookLetters and see what catches your eye. If Bookletters sounds interesting to you, go to infosoup.org to learn more, or ask at the library.

Meet our New Intern

Kelly Ellis, a student at Wabeno High School, is the library's new summer intern. She will be here for ten weeks this summer, so be sure and stop in and say hello. Kelly will be learning about the many aspects of running a library.

The Friends have provided a stipend for an intern for the last two years. Last year's intern, Miranda Ehlinger, proved to be a great asset to the library in its busy summer months. In addition, the Friends will also be providing a stipend for a school-year intern, starting this fall. Local teens sixteen and up will be invited to apply.

Kelly is a junior at Wabeno High School. If you saw this spring's "The Wizard of Oz" at the high school, you may have seen Kelly as the Wicked Witch of the West. But don't worry -- she's much nicer in person. Welcome, Kelly!

The Libri Books and Family Fun Night

In March, the Lakes Country Public Library received a grant from the Libri Foundation that provided (with help from the Friends of the Library) more than sixty new children's books for the library. The Friends raised the local funding part of the grant through a bake sale and a book sale.

To promote the new books, we held a Family Fun Night on March 30.The Friends paid for the refreshments we had at the event, including pizza, punch and cookies. To make the Family Fun Night a community affair, we asked the Wabeno High School Drama students to read to the children who attended.

The turnout was wonderful. We had families from throughout our area, including more than 45 children and teens. The drama students read Doreen Cronin's Click, Clack, Moo, Eric Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear and others. Parents enjoyed themselves as well. We estimate that about one third of the new books were checked out that night alone.

The day following the event, we displayed the books (that were left) in a bookcase in the front of the library, with a sign about the contribution of the Friends and the Libri Foundation. We have used several of the books at storytime (and will continue to use them for years to come.)

Our new books and Family Fun Night have attracted new patrons to the library, and patrons have continued to check out the new books!

What's the Mystery at the Library?
-- "Get a Clue"

This summer's theme is "Get a Clue." Kids of all ages can come in any time to sign up for our summer reading program and have fun at our craft and activity table, which will feature "mystery" activities.

On Monday, July 16 at 6:00, we're having a terrific children's show featuring magician Jim Lenz. All children who attend will be able to put their name in for a drawing right after the show to win the new Harry Potter book (the winner will be able to pick it up on its official release date of July 21.)

Speaking of which…reserve your Harry Potter!
Have us put your name on the list for the new Harry Potter NOW to get your copy faster.

Coming Soon to the Library---
Wireless Internet

The Friends of the Library will be funding the installation of wireless Internet for the library. It should be available within a few weeks.
