New Building Fund

Our New Building Project is a grass-roots effort that will improve the cultural, recreational and educational life of our area and help sustain the economic viability of life in this rural Wisconsin community. From the beginning, the dream has been to have a permanent home for the library. A dedicated group of volunteers set to work to raise money to build a library building that would be a focal point for Suring area citizens to gather for educational, recreational and cultural needs. Over the years, after countless bake sales, book sales, garden walks, golf outings and other fund raising events, the Friends of the Suring Area Public Library had raised just over $176,000. They could not have accomplished this without the support of our citizens.

In 2004, the Board of Trustees of the Library voted to have the Village of Suring write and submit a grant to build a community building that would contain our new library. We went back to the citizens in Bagley, Breed, How, Maple Valley, and Suring to ask for additional financial support for our New Library Building Project. The Towns responded by pledging a total of $85,455.  In 2005, the Wisconsin State Department of Commerce awarded a grant of $212,431 for a community building that would include the public library. Oconto County gave $5,000 for the library portion of the project. This brought the total funds available for the library to $469,553.

We are close to realizing the dream that started twenty years ago but we are not there yet. Please consider donating to the Suring Area Public Library’s New Building Project.
