Subscribe to Newsletters from NFLS Library funding in today's quickly moving environmentThis April 10, 2025 edition of NEWIL News covers library funding in today's quickly moving environment and its impact on the IMLS, DPI, Wisconsin's public library systems and its member libraries.
![]() On March 31, 2025, all Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) employees were placed on administrative leave, with access to their work systems blocked. The President replaced the agency’s leadership with the Deputy Secretary of Labor. Without leadership and staff, it’s expected that library funding will be halted. This action puts crucial services at risk across the country—and especially here in Wisconsin. Federal law requires IMLS to provide support to public libraries, but that support is currently only guaranteed through September 2025. Do you love your local library? Have you benefited from library programs, resources, or services? Now is your chance to make your voice heard! The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is collecting short video testimonials to highlight the real-life impact of federal funding on public libraries across the state. These videos will be featured on DPI’s social media to showcase why libraries matter and why continued funding is essential. How You Can Participate Creating and submitting a video is simple! Just grab your phone, tablet, or computer and record a short testimonial (30-45 seconds, up to 1 minute max). Your video should focus on the importance of federal funding for public libraries and how it has personally impacted you.
