Representatives of the Nicolet Federated Library System (NFLS) and its member libraries attended Library Legislative Day at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison on February 6, 2024. Tracy Vreeke, NFLS Director, and Dominic Frandrup, Door County Library Director, met with State Representative Joel Kitchens from the 1st Assembly District. "We had a wonderful time talking about the books we have read and all the great things happening in our library system," reported Kitchens in his newsletter.
Senator Eric Wimberger (30th Senate District) said in his Facebook post "It was great connecting with April, Connie, and Joan who work tirelessly to serve communities through the Nicolet Federated Library System." NFLS Board of Trustees member Joan Denis (Oconto County) and Lena Public Library Director April De La Ruelle met with Senator Mary Felzkowski from the 12th Senate District. Felzkowski, who was instrumental in getting the budget passed that included an increase for public libraries, wrote in her newsletter that "Libraries are the glue that hold many of our rural communities together, filling gaps as needed and making sure the Northwoods continues to be a great place to live, learn, play, and to raise a family." She was also presented with the Wisconsin Library Champion award by the Wisconsin Library Association.
