The Gillett Public Library recently purchased items for its new Makerspace table with the help of a Library Improvement and Innovation Grant from the Nicolet Federated Library System. The library purchased magnetic tile kits, origami paper, a sketchpad, and a laptop for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programming. There was a noted increase in the time patrons spent in the library. Parents also played with their kids using the makerspace.

Ebert Enterprises, a family-owned farm and employer from Algoma, participated by bringing a cow and a couple of day-old calves. Wilson's Wish, a non-profit animal sanctuary, brought in a mini pony and a goat. "We had so much fun; thank you for having us!" said one Wilson's Wish representative. "We look forward to bringing Lily for story time in August as well!" The petting zoo was a great success, being attended by more than 200 adults and children! Library staff offered "A HUGE thanks to Ebert Enterprises and Wilson's Wish for bringing these wonderful critters! Not only were attendees excited, but our staff was too!" The Kewaunee Public Library implemented a four-part series of Lifelong Learning classes for its community with the help of a Library Improvement and Innovation Grant from the Nicolet Federated Library System.
The classes were offered both in the library and at three assisted living facilities in Kewaunee. The library currently partners with the facilities by delivering library materials for their residents. The library featured a variety of art and craft projects that exposed participants to new skills such as floral arranging, painting, interior design, and cultivating an environment for backyard bird watching. Its objectives were to teach new skills, provide a sense of mastery and meaning, boost mood, inspire a sense of playfulness, increase socialization, and decrease boredom. The library hoped to trigger positive memories for participants. Library staff executed the classes and witnessed everything they hoped for come to fruition. Their evaluations showed a high approval for all the projects and they hope to keep implementing these type of projects in their community. The library thanks Nicolet Federated Library System for its support of this project. Library Director Carol Petrina said, "At our in-library sessions, we had many participants coming in with friends, so a fun social atmosphere was very evident and great to see." A thank you note from one participant read, “Thank you Ann and Pam for giving us a great time yesterday. I enjoyed the time and really like the door decoration I made with your help. See you again.” The Algoma Public Library recently purchased Launchpad tablets with a recent Library Improvement and Innovation Grant from the Nicolet Federated Library System.
