Mark your calendars! This year’s WPLC Annual Membership Meeting will be held during WAPL on May 1, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Central Wisconsin Convention & Expo Center in Rothschild.
Here are just a few things that will be discussed:
Invitation from Hannah Bunting, the Membership Coordinator at WLA:
Through the Wisconsin Author Project, made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, libraries are helping local authors get the recognition they deserve for writing great books. Wisconsin residents who are authors of self-published adult or young adult fiction will be invited to submit their work. One winner will receive $1,000, inclusion in a full page spread in Library Journal, be honored at PLA 2020 in Nashville, and be recognized at the awards ceremony of the Wisconsin Library Association Annual Conference in October.
Submissions are due by May 31st. The submitted books will be reviewed by staff at Library Journal and by members of the Wisconsin library community. The winner will be announced this fall at the Annual Conference of the Wisconsin Library Association.
For marketing materials and more information, or to submit a book for consideration, visit the Wisconsin Author Project website.
WHAT: The Games in Libraries Conference is open to all library staff from public, academic, or special libraries. It encompasses all types of games - board, card, video, etc.
WHEN: May 31, 2019
WHERE: UW-Eau Claire's McIntyre Library
WHY: Whether your library uses games currently or not, the Games in Libraries Conference is for you!
COST: FREE! Funding provided by the Ideas to Action grant from WiLS.
As many things in our society become "gamifed" (e.g., Snapchat streaks), we need to learn and understand the various ways in which games of all types can be used as educational tools. This conference is one in which we hope to show, share, and learn from peers about how they use games in libraries, why adding games to a collection might be useful, and how they can promote their use with their users.
The 2018 WAPL Conference was a huge success. Join us in 2019 for even more spectacular programs and events!

Congratulations go to the February 2019 WLA Small Library Section Librarian of the Month - Tracy Opper!
Tracy, the branch manager at Door County Library's Baileys Harbor Branch, is also the first LotM to be from a branch library. She was recommended by a colleague in Ephriam, who praised Tracy for all the amazing things she's done for the library.
