WiLS, as project managers for the Public Library System Redesign (PLSR) process is recruiting volunteers to fill leadership roles for the service workgroups. These positions are open to all library and system staff in the Wisconsin Library Community.
The service workgroups will evaluate information and assist with creating recommendations of new models for service and developing and evaluating pilot projects. Nine workgroups will be formed:
Volunteers are currently needed to fill two leadership roles for each workgroup:
1. Facilitator: This position will be responsible for running the meetings and providing facilitation to make sure all voices are heard at the meetings. Individuals fulfilling these roles will be expected to have excellent facilitation skills.
2. Lead: This position will work closely with WiLS and will communicate progress and concerns from the workgroup, assist with planning meetings, determining process for the workgroup, and developing service area recommendations. Individuals fulfilling these roles will be expected to have expertise in the topic of the workgroup.
Volunteers will be expected to make a 2-3 year commitment to the process. Those selected to fulfill the leadership roles will begin their work in January of 2016. From January to April of 2016, Phase 1 of the project, the workgroup leadership will be involved in helping develop a project plan for their respective workgroups and will provide input for the selection process of other workgroup members.
Each workgroup will begin their work in May 2016, Phase 2 of the project. Each workgroup will have a different schedule for completing their work, with some workgroups expected to continue throughout the entire 2-3 year process and others expected to be done with their work sooner. The time needed to fulfill these roles will vary by workgroup.
In order to ensure that the recommendations of the workgroup are not perceived as biased, it is important that the leadership for a workgroup not have a direct interest in the outcome of that workgroup. Individuals volunteering for these positions should not be people whose fate may rest in the outcome or who have a financial interest in the outcome.
This requirement does not remove all system staff from consideration for workgroup leadership. For example, for the Continuing Education (CE) workgroup, one of the CE coordinators in the state will not be placed in a leadership position. However, a system director or another system staff member with expertise in CE could fill one of the positions. CE coordinators, and others, will be able to apply to be a part of the CE workgroup when we recruit other workgroup members in the spring.
To try to represent many different parts of our library community geography and size of library/system will be considered as part of the selection.
At this time, we are only recruiting for the leadership of the workgroups. Workgroup members will be recruited at a later date.
