Library staff training resources

A digital ad campaign promoting libraries as partners in workforce development will go live statewide on January 10, 2022, and run until February 27. The goal of the campaign will be to remind the public of the role Wisconsin public libraries can play to connect job seekers with existing programs and services. If all goes according to plan, you will see new faces in your library!

The following video introduces all resources library staff need to position their library as a partner in workforce development. System marketers talk about using the new toolkit resources and toolkit (recorded 12/13/2021).

Library staff resources to assist Wisconsin's workforce (from DPI)

Library staff are often asked to help library users navigate job seeker and employment services. Multiple resources are available to assist in building partnerships with workforce development teams, and to enhance knowledge of workforce systems, programs and services that support job seekers.

Along with the resources below, each library should assess and list on its website the specific services offered and any associated costs or required appointments. Then communicate this information to all staff. A Workforce Resources Inventory for Libraries is available to assist in this task.

Library staff marketing resources

What can I do to prepare for this advertising push in under an hour?
Whether or not your library has been able to meet the needs of job seekers in your community in the past, in about TWENTY MINUTES you can position your library as a welcoming space for job seekers. Here's how:
  1. Add a button or widget from the new marketing toolkit (customizable in Canva) to your library’s website and link it to JobCenterofWisconsin.com.
  2. Complete the Workforce Resources Inventory For Libraries worksheet to identify your library’s available services and needs. Tell users about the resources available to them at your library-- put this information on your website, share with local workforce partners, and mention these tools/services in other communications!
  3. Assign staff to get familiar with the Job Center of Wisconsin website via this webinar or on the DPI website, here.

Have a little more time?
Check out the full marketing toolkit on the DPI website here. This new resource was created to help your library reach job seekers in your community and is customizable in Canva. Inside, you will find Canva templates, tips, and best practices from the marketing experts at KW2, a digital marketing agency out of Madison.
