The Algoma Public Library is seeking an innovative, self-motivated, technology-savvy librarian to work with the Children (ages birth to 13) in our community and support the library. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children; readily adapts to constant change; is comfortable both with current technologies and learning new ones; projects a helpful, welcoming personality, and is well organized. Coursework or experience in children's services is a plus. This position is 35 hours a week (including some evenings) with an additional 85 hours on Saturdays throughout the year.
 
The Algoma Public Library is a member of the Nicolet Federated Library System and the OWLSnet consortium, located on the shore of Lake Michigan, serves a municipal community of 3,219, and provides library services to non-municipal residents of Kewaunee County.
 
The Children's Librarian is under the direct supervision of the Library Director and is responsible for the planning and execution of programming for the Children in the community including two story hours (birth to toddler & toddler to kindergarten) each week.
 
Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree and have or be able to obtain a Grade II Library Certification upon completion of the coursework within the certification guidelines. (Fee to be covered by Library)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfort with and ability to use technology
  • Effective customer services skills needed
  • Some children's services or related work is a plus
 
This $17.56 hourly position includes benefits.

Job Summary:
Performs circulation and customer service functions. Answers directional questions and refers customers to appropriate materials. Assists Librarian with programming for children and is comfortable carrying out the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs circulation duties, such as checking materials in and out, handling bills and notices, placing items on hold, processing courier delivery, processing a variety of reports, and account maintenance.
  • Assists patrons with reference, computer, and equipment questions and support.
  • Assists Librarian in planning children's programs, storytimes, and outreach activities, and then carrying out the program that was planned.
  • Serves on internal and external committees and workgroups.
  • Shelves materials.
  • Seek donations and support for Summer Reading program.

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Facility Grounds, the Library custodian performs routine building cleaning tasks. Repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of building cleaning and maintenance duties. Under general supervision on routine, recurring assignments.

This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours are flexible.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and buffs floors.
  • Washes windows, doors, screens, blinds, light fixtures, and walls. Climb ladders when necessary.
  • Collects trash, paper and other recyclable materials. 
  • Cleans restrooms, fills soap, towel and tissue dispensers. 
  • Moves furniture as requested.
  • Clean carpet and upholstery using power extraction machine.
  • Operates an auto-scrubbing machine to clean and strip floor surfaces.
  • Utilizes a variety of tools and power equipment.
  • Changes light bulbs.
  • Locks doors and turns lights on and off as necessary.
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture.
  • Shoves snow from stoops and entrance ways when necessary.

​Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in commercial building custodial service and the proper use of chemical and equipment.
  • Valid WI driver's license and adequate insurance as required by County Policy.
