2021-2022 LSTA Professional Development Grants

NFLS is offering competitive grants of up to $1000 to support costs for library staff attendance at professional development events, webinars or trainings. Individual library staff members are eligible to apply on their own behalf. Currently, there is no cap on the total amount of funds that staff members from one library can apply for and receive.

Grant funds can be used for in-person professional development events from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022. If you have already registered for an event (ARSL or WLA), you may apply for reimbursement from the grant as long as it falls within the above time frame.

Eligible use of grant funds include:
  • Conference and preconference registration fee (WLA, WAPL, PLA, ARSL, etc.).
  • Travel expenses (mileage, airfare, meals, lodging, and parking).
  • Substitute Library Assistants and extra staff hours to cover a vacancy while attending a professional development event.
  • Courses and classes (the four library courses and textbooks for director Grade 2 and 3 certification, iSchool @ UW-Madison, Library Juice Academy, etc.).
  • Workshops and webinars that are fee-based (ALA, YALSA, Library Journal, League of Wisconsin Municipalities, etc.).
  • Other categories may be eligible; please contact NFLS to determine eligibility.

How to apply:
  1. Staff member applies for grant funds using the application form.
  2. NFLS will notify the staff member regarding the status of the application and whether they will receive grant funding.
  3. NFLS will provide funds to the library within 2 weeks of the application deadline.

Final application round deadline: Monday, April 4, 2022
