Connecting Wisconsin Libraries

Interested in networking with school and public library folks from around Wisconsin? If yes, then, Connecting Wisconsin Libraries is the group for you! This group, facilitated by leaders from WEMTA, WLA, and the DPI, strives to improve communication and collaboration between school and public libraries through sharing information, experiences, and best practices in virtual gatherings throughout the year.

For more information or to join the group, contact Jeni Schomber, DPI Public Library Consultant, at 608-266-2749 or [email protected].

Intertype Services

Nicolet Library System aims to foster cooperation and resource sharing with other types of libraries in the region by providing the following services:

Continuing education workshops and webinars:

  • Nicolet provides libraries with information on past and future continuing education opportunities at https://www.nfls.lib.wi.us/ce.html.
  • A wide variety of workshops and webinars can be accessed through the NEWI clearinghouse at https://newilibraries.org/content/upcoming-live-webinars.

Interlibrary loan of materials

Through the Nicolet Interlibrary Loan clearinghouse, Nicolet will facilitate the sharing of materials for all libraries.

Resource sharing:

Nicolet works with all types of libraries to facilitate borrowing of materials. In the rare instance in which material cannot be borrowed through the Interlibrary Loan system, the following options are available:

NEW ERA provides borrowing cards for patrons 18 and over for the following institutions:
  • UW Oshkosh
  • UW-GB
  • College of Menominee Nation
  • Lakeshore Technical College
  • Northeast WI Technical College
  • Moraine Park Technical College
  • Fox Valley Technical College

St. Nobert College provides community borrower cards to adults 18 or older. The card is renewable on a yearly basis.

Brown County Library issues temporary library cards for those that do not qualify otherwise. This allows the patron unlimited access to digital resources and the checkout of two physical items, including interlibrary loan items.

NEWIL News updates

The NEWIL News aims to help Nicolet foster cooperation and resource sharing among all types of libraries in northeast Wisconsin by providing intertype library services, including continuing education, interlibrary loans, and resource sharing.

Reimbursement for materials borrowed using a NEWIL Courtesy Card:

  • Courtesy cards were previously issued to check out materials from NEWIL member libraries such as UW-Green Bay, Bellin, St. Vincent and St. Norbert libraries. Courtesy Cards were meant to be used as a one-time usage of loaning library materials between NEWIL member libraries. The loan of library materials was subject to the rules and regulations of lending libraries.
  • As of June 2, 2022, NEWIL was dissolved and is no longer sponsoring the courtesy card.
  • If you loaned out materials prior to June 2, 2022 using a courtesy card, and the items were lost, stolen or damaged, funds have been set aside to cover replacement costs. The funds will be distributed to libraries on a first come, first served basis. After five years, any remaining funds will be distributed to the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation.
  • Please submit an expense reimbursement form to Nicolet at [email protected].
