Check Out Wisconsin State Parks at Your Library

1/29/2025

Picture
Park passes went out in delivery on January 28, 2025. The pre-purchase period is over, but additional passes can be purchased anytime during 2025 at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/outwigo/library.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has recently created new posters and a graphic to promote the Check Out Wisconsin State Parks At Your Library program. The new files can be downloaded from the Check Out WI State Parks At Your Library DPI landing page.

FAQs

Highlights from Q&A:
  • Passes do not expire. If you have any left over from 2024, you can still use them in 2025.
  • The date the patron intends to use the pass must be written on the pass at time of check out. The DNR is very concerned about the passes being used more than once. However you can write a date range to give the patron a little more flexibility.
  • Out of state plates – Unfortunately, the DNR cannot change the requirement that it be a car with Wisconsin plates. This is a requirement under state law so there is no flexibility on this issue.
The DNR program directors held a very informative Q&A session for the Check Out Wisconsin State Parks at Your Library program a few weeks ago. If you were not able to attend or would like to re-watch the meeting, use this link to access the recording. PDF copies of the PowerPoint shared during the Q&A session and written answers to our most frequently asked questions are available here:

Using a Date Range

The DNR recommends filling out the pass to make sure it’s clear which date the pass is being used. DNR staff are mostly checking to ensure that the pass is not being filled out with multiple dates not in a range (ex. 3 Fridays in a month: 1/10, 1/17, 1/24) or with several dates crossed out and rewritten. This part of the program essentially functions on an honor system, but we know things come up and weather can be iffy in Wisconsin, so we also want to allow some flexibility to make sure folks are able to get out and use their pass.
