Brown County East Branch Library Renovation and Expansion Underway

New library will open this year.

The Zeise Construction fence is installed and work has begun on the future Brown County East Branch Library at 2253 Main Street.  Located next door to the current branch, this conveniently located and familiar site features 16,500 square feet - nearly triple the current library's footprint!

“This significant occasion is long overdue because the public’s needs outgrew the library’s former space, thus becoming no longer relevant for today’s uses,” says Brown County Executive, Troy Streckenbach. “This modern, reimagined space will serve residents on Green Bay’s east side and surrounding communities equipped with the latest in technology and gathering spaces,” Streckenbach continued.

Designed by Somerville Architects & Engineers, this library will be an exciting environment in which the community can connect to a diverse platform of information, opportunities and services.  The Brown County Library is committed to providing free access to curated resources and services; designing and delivering early learning and literacy programs for children and families; and offering technology to bridge digital and opportunity gaps.

The new library will contain inviting and comfortable adult reading areas, a young adult area, a children's area, meeting and study rooms, and a calming room.  The marketplace will feature a fireplace and a coffee nook. High-speed WiFi, checkout stations, computers, and a business center are just a few conveniences that will be offered.

Exterior amenities include a drive-up window, an outdoor garden/green space, and ample parking for library patrons.  The outdoor commons area will showcase native plantings, a play space designed for children, a pathway, and a variety of seating.

Brown County Library Executive Director Sarah Sugden thanks the individuals and community groups who have advocated for a new East Branch, the members of the County Board and Library Board who have approved funding and resources for important capital projects like a community library, and library staff who worked to make this special project happen.

“We can’t wait for the new East Branch Library to be open to welcome visitors and serve our community for generations to come,” Sugden states.
