Guest post by Shannon Nichola Stoner, Gillett Public Library Director
The Gillett Public Library hosted “Coffee with a Vet” on Thursday, November 10th ahead of Veteran’s Day. Gillett residents and businesses came together to show their gratitude and support to those who have served their country. Amid patriotic piano music, sweets, and conversation, the community and veterans shared memories and a cup of coffee.
New View Industries in Gillett distributed cards for veterans and thanked them for their service. Cookies & Co Sweet Shop in Gillett donated freshly baked cookies. The Cracked Cup, also in Gillett, provided coffee and mini muffins. Master Sergeant Jean Froelich, a veteran, created displays honoring veterans from every war and brought them to the event. Each display included pictures and facts about each particular war. She also included a display of flags from each branch of the military including Army, Marines, Seals, Navy, Vietnam veteran flag, and the newly established Space Force. Attendees perused the many displays to learn about the service of veterans and the impact of their sacrifice.
