Gillett Schools: A Century of Learning

The Gillett Public Library, in partnership with the Gillett Historical Society, have created a display featuring how our schools have changed over a century. Multiple one-room schoolhouses have been consolidated into a single location. Gillett School District students have seen many changes over the years. None of these changes have impacted students with such depth as technology.

Blackboard slates have been replaced by paper notebooks. No longer are the days when students pack their lunches in lard pails or carry cigar boxes with ink wells. Cell phones now occupy pockets where jacks and marbles were once used for recess fun.

Those interested in exploring Gillett’s schoolyard history can visit the Gillett Public Library at 200 East Main Street in Gillett on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 am to 6 pm and Fridays 10 am to 5 pm.
